Cultivating Inner Peace: Actionable Insights for Spiritual Alignment

We've all heard phrases like "being in the flow," or" being in spiritual alignment" but what does it mean, and how does one find alignment? For me, the question of alignment is simple. It boils down to decisions made through the lens of the ego mind vs. the guidance of the soul.

The ego lives in the mind. It's a computation system. It negotiates for safety and love and is conditional by nature. Therefore, it's limiting in its approach. It makes statements like "If I get this job, I will be successful" or, "If this person loves me, I will be happy." It relies on external conditions to achieve its goals. The problem is that it so often falls short. Time and time again, we find ourselves lacking in fulfillment even when we achieve our so-called goals. We have the career, the marriage, the house, the cars, all the bells and whistles, and still, something is missing. Why? Because true happiness isn't conditional. It comes from within. In all our decision-making, we never bothered to ask ourselves what makes us truly happy...

Enter, the soul. The soul is found within our heart space. Our higher selves speak to us through this space all the time, every day. It's our built-in navigation system that steers us toward our evolutionary learning and growth. It strives for deep fulfillment, guiding us toward what motivates us and makes us feel alive. It's not based on fear, or judgment, or need like the ego mind. It's not dependent on a person, a job, a condition, or what society tells us will make us happy. The soul knows our learning and our healing, leading us to let go of what no longer serves us so that we may create space for inner peace and joy. When we begin to let go of the ego's operating system and shift into the soul's point of view, we begin to cultivate a life tailored to our desires, unique gifts, what truly inspires us, and not the programming of familial and societal expectations and norms.

Following our soul's guidance leads to happiness, fulfillment, and ultimately this thing called, alignment. To be aligned is to let your soul guide your decisions so that you can live in your highest and fullest expression. It takes time. We don't create our dream scenarios overnight, but part of the richness of our manifestations is the journey that led us there. If we approach our lives with gratitude and cultivate spirtual alignment, we eventually create the lives we've always desired.

Making Soul-Based Decisions.

Your soul communicates through feelings. When trying to identify your path to fulfillment, first try to step outside of what you think is logical, or safe, and let yourself feel into what inspires you and makes you feel joy. Ask yourself how you want to feel every day? What types of people do you want to surround yourself with? What experiences have made you feel whole and fulfilled and how can you create more of them? Dream big and set your intentions to align with what lights you up.

Next, start small and ask yourself what you can do in the next 5 minutes to feel energized? What can you do today that will inspire you? What steps can you take this week, this month, and this year to step into a path that truly lights you up? These seemigly small decisions to follow your soul's impulses will eventually add up and lead you on a path of ease and flow.

Tips for Finding Your Spiritual Alignment.

  • Self Care- Listen to your body. What is it telling you? Are you stressed, tired, or overworked? If so, what can you do today to alleviate the stress? Is it a nap? Yoga? Massage? Meditation? This is a part of taking baby steps each day to create alignment.

  • Being in Presence- If your thoughts reside in the future or the past, it's difficult to listen to what you currently need or desire in the current moment. Practicing mindfulness and meditation are both valuable tools because they pave a path for us to tap into the present moment, thereby allowing us to be in receiving mode to our soul's impulses. Side note: Meditation doesn't have to be sitting silently with your eyes closed. Walking in nature, making art, knitting, gardening, or whatever activity you enjoy that will help to quiet your mind is perfect!

  • Journaling- writing can be a powerful tool for identifying your souls desires. Whether your journaling practice includes setting intentions for the day, reflecting on the day, or creating written visualizations of what you want to manifest, writing has a magical way of illuminating your inner truths.
